ProgramsInfant & Toddler CareInfant need special care, which is why we limit the number in our program. Research proves that infants need to do more than sit around absorbing the world. They need to move or be moved, to be talked to, and to know caring adults will meet their needs. At our center, children have toys to challenge their skills, plus are held and cuddled as much as possible. We treat them like precious learning children. Infants and toddlers are involved with as many activities as their age will allow. This includes going outside, listening to stories, singing songs, using craft materials, etc. The activities will be modified to meet their capabilities. Infants are on their own schedule. They are fed when hungry, sleep when tired, and held when needed. It is very important to meet their needs as they express them; this also includes the social ones. If these are met then they will feel secure, allowing their bodies and minds to grow at their fullest potential. You are welcome to leave breast milk or if possible, come and feed your infant. We ask that you give us a schedule of your wishes as to how you want us to feed your child. We will put that information in your child’s records. If you are bottle-feeding you will need to provide us with the formula of your choice with directions as to how to prepare it for your child. You are welcome to come in and feed your child if your work allows it. When we start and what we feed your child is up to you. We will follow your lead. When your infant is ready to start eating solids you will need to provide the food. Food decisions will be made as a team. It is also your responsibility to provide a pacifier if one is used. It is your responsibility to provide diapers and wipes. Many parents find it easier to buy a large supply and leave it here. We will let you know when we need more. Infants and toddlers have a hard time talking for themselves. When it is time to potty train, we will approach this developmental stage as a team approach. Taking the lead from your child as he/she shows readiness in learning this skill. Your child will move from one classroom to the next as he/she is developmentally ready to participate in each group. It is very important that we communicate information about your child to each other. We need to share how much was eaten, how much sleep and any bowel movement plus whether happy, fussy, or quiet. Other information may be helpful. The hope is to share information at drop off and pick up times. We use a daily note sheet with all of the information printed on it. Calls are welcome anytime during operating hours. Sometimes we are busy with the children, so don’t be alarmed if the answering machine picks-up. Leave a message and we we will call you back as soon as we can. Pre-SchoolAs part of our year round child care program, we offer a pre-k classroom September-June, Monday - Thursday mornings 8:30am - 11:30am. This is supported by monthly themes & projects to help children develop the skills to transition to kindergarten programs. Socially: your child will learn to work & play with others, participate in group interaction, and take care of their own personal possessions. Physically: your child will have many opportunities for free play with a balance of physical activity & rest, will develop large and small muscles, improve eye-hand coordination, dance, run, and play. Cognitively: your child will learn by doing, is encouraged to talk and communicate, participate in stories & drama, explore & learn. Emotionally provide structure with time for individual needs, sensitive to feelings of others in a warm and nurturing environment. All children are avid learners, they are tireless, experimenters & problem solvers. Our program is designed to meet their needs & prepare them for future school years. |
